Six plans to discover San Sebastián

During your stay at Akelarre, we invite you to get immersed in our gastronomic and cultural heritage with an itinerary that will take you high and low to some of San Sebastián’s most picturesque sights and memorable neighbourhoods.

From Playa de la Concha’s extraordinary landscape to burgess architecture, and even a pintxos route, these are six plans to discover San Sebastián.

1. LA CONCHA BAY
Right to the north is La Concha Bay, possibly one of the best-known places in our country. At the bottom of Mount Igueldo and from the emblematic railing made by Juan Rafael Alday in 1916, one can see Santa Clara Island and take some photos. The buildings surrounding the bay reveal the influence of the “Belle Époque” with its well preserved aesthetic.

2. THE PARTE VIEJA
The pintxos itinerary is one of the gastronomic experiences that everyone has in mind when visiting San Sebastián. Anytime is good to stop by any of the many bars in the Parte Vieja and taste some of these traditional tapas placed along their bars, ready to enjoy with a txikito.

3. GROS
We keep our itinerary, moving from the old town to the most youthful surfing neighbourhood, Gros. The trendy neighbourhood celebrates the pintxopote every Thursday, an event where pintxos and plans are always on the list. In Gros, we find the Zurriola beach, known worldwide by surfers and the Kursaal Congress Palace. In addition, new shops and restaurants bring a wide range of options, with many one-of-a-kind stores including local designers.

4. THE FOREST OF MIRAMÓN
One of the two most recognised parks in the city is located in the Miramón neighbourhood. Here one can enjoy a bike ride through its greenery, passing through historic buildings such as the Science Museum, the Roman amphitheatre, the Torres de Arbide or the Palacio de Aiete, a neoclassical building from 1878. The park also hosts the prestigious Basque Culinary Center.

5. EGIA
Known as the artists’ home, in this emerging neighbourhood, the artistic, theatre and musical influences of San Sebastián converge. Tabakalera, the International Center for Contemporary Culture, is located there.

6. OTHER TREASURES TO DISCOVER
However, San Sebastián’s connection with art is not only found in Egia. There are numerous places to plunge into the heart of regional art and culture, such as the Koldo Mitxelena library, contemporary art galleries such as Arteko and Ekain Arte Lanak or even annual events such as the Jazz Festival and the San Sebastián Film Festival.

For those thirsting for still more activities in San Sebastián and our surroundings, we suggest some more alternatives including regional landmarks and sites of mind-bending beauty.
