Easter Holidays in San Sebastian

As spring approaches, San Sebastian prepares for the arrival of the Easter holidays. This time time of the year calls for reflection, appreciation of cultural heritage and celebration, and San Sebastian offers a unique opportunity for those looking to experience an original and different Easter Week.

In spring, the city comes alive with different events, with something for everyone. The most sporty runners can enjoy one of the fastest and most panoramic races in Europe, the San Sebastian Half Marathon. Twenty-one kilometres through the city centre at sea level, on a completely flat terrain that runs through some of the city’s most emblematic sites, such as the Kursaal Conference Centre, La Concha beach and the Buen Pastor Cathedral.

For those interested in experiencing the solemnity of Holy Week, the idyllic village of Segura is just 45 minutes from Akelarre. It is the only town in Gipuzkoa that still holds processions on Maundy Thursday, recognised as the best in the north of the country.  The quality of this celebration is largely due to the dedication of the local population. More than three hundred locals take part in the processions and, during the rest of the time, they are responsible for maintaining and caring for images that stand out for their great beauty and methodical elaboration, some of them dating back to the 17th century. In addition, the processions are accompanied by txistularis, a choir and a band that perform various pieces and create a unique and solemn atmosphere.

These days of celebration are an invitation to enjoy the delicious gastronomy that has made San Sebastian famous. The renowned Akelarre restaurant, awarded with 3 Michelin stars and the hotel’s restaurant, Espazio Oteiza, awarded with a Sol Repsol, offer a delicious variety of traditional Basque dishes, as well as other dishes typical of the most excellent contemporary gastronomy. An unforgettable culinary experience that will put the finishing touch to an Easter Week in the north.

Discover San Sebastian at Easter with an exceptional stay and experience the opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique culture and traditions of this spectacular city.
