About Akelarre

Akelarre was established in 1970, but it was not until 1975 that Pedro Subijana took the helm, achieving the highest distinctions in prestigious culinary guides and becoming part of Relais & Châteaux.

From there, we obtained 3 Michelin stars in 2007.

Thanks to our non-conformism and desire for perfection, we wanted to complement our restaurant offering with a complete accommodation experience, which resulted in the opening of our 5-star Hotel Akelarre and Espazio Oteiza restaurant and terraces in 2017.

Since 2001, we have been members of the Relais & Châteaux Association with the restaurant, and later incorporated the hotel.

With over 60 years of history, Relais & Châteaux is more than an association of unique and independent hotels and restaurants spread over five continents; it is a movement with a strong and unique vision of gastronomy and hospitality. With a strong desire to reflect and promote the exceptional cultural and culinary diversity of our planet, Relais & Châteaux members share the same values, such as a connection with the local environment and culture, passion for what we do, and contributing to enrich culinary and hospitality history.
